The Friday Newsletter #7
Did you see the northern lights or were you tucked up in bed asleep? My husband and I didn’t have much looking finding them when we were in Iceland so when the red alert popped up on my phone, we hopped in the car and drove in to the Dales to find them…And what an incredible night we had. It was a real bucket list moment and we were both over the moon to see them (although a bit miffed we had paid so much to go to Iceland haha!).
The rest of the weekend was spent in our south facing garden, soaking up the sunshine before it buggered off and was replaced by - you guess it - yet more rain. Despite the rain we had earlier in the week, my ranunculus has started to grow, the other plants are thriving and the grass is finally recovering and is no longer like a bog. It’s set to be another sunny one this weekend so I’m very much looking forward to that.
We also had to take the dogs to the vets over the weekend for their booster jabs. Bruce (staff) was fine, a bit miffed, but fine whereas Zuzu (mastiff) wouldn’t let the vet near her, she almost nipped my husband and I wasn’t quick enough to get the muzzle on her. In the end we had to give her some anti anxiety medication (like mother, like daughter!!!) and the large animal/horse vet did the jabs outside a few days later. The joys of being a dog owner.
I’ve completed Couch to 5K week 3 this week (am I boring you yet?!) but it’s been my hardest week yet. I’ve done a couple of pavement runs and they’ve killed my calves. I’m taking a few days to recover before starting week four (and slathering my legs in red tiger balm) so hopefully the only way is up.
Escape to the Chateau is my number one favourite all time comfort watch so I really don’t know why it’s taken me so long to start listening to the ‘Dick & Angel’s Chat…Eau’ podcast.
Speaking of podcasts, I saw someone ask on TikTok for podcasts to replace the irreplacable ‘The High Low’ by Dolly Alderton & Pandora Sykes - I am plugging the gap with Everything is Content, Straight Up, Mamma Mia Out Loud and Shameless (the former two are British, the latter are Australian).
I watched The Idea Of You starring Queen of Genovia Anne Hathaway and Nick Galitizine and I bloody loved it. It was way better than I was expecting it to be and I actually teared up at the end. It’s just a fun, silly rom-com that isn’t too cheesy either.
My mum forgot to cancel her Hello Fresh box this week so when she asked if I wanted the box as she had done her weekly shop, I obviously said yes. Inside was the Hello Fresh hot honey chicken which is super easy to make, super simple and bloody delicious. Yes it’s going on my weekly meal rota.
I wish I had more to recommend to you but this week has been a bit of a blur of work and life and getting ready for my holiday next week! Have a lovely weekend xx
